The Miami Dolphins: Coaches need to answer for bullying
The bullying story coming out of the NFL regarding Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito keeps getting uglier as more details come out. The latest being that the coaching staff asked Incognito to “toughen up” Martin. They asked Incognito, voted dirtiest player in the NFL one season and runner up the next, to be the one to make a player mentally stronger. Wow.
A round of applause for the Miami Dolphins for being 4 - 4 so far this season, because with this type of decision making it’s truly amazing that somehow they have been able to win 4 games. Can you imagine how good this team could be if they had good coaches and an actual leadership presence in that locker room? I mean, it’s astounding that Incognito would be part of your leadership council (after being thrown off teams in college and repeatedly being let go by teams in the NFL because of behavior concerns, not to mention his past legal transgressions), let alone be asked to be responsible for making a teammate better.
Basically the Miami Dolphins coaching staff asked Incognito to use his own better judgment to find a way to better a teammate… and no one thought this could go wrong. Despite the fact that Incognito is know as being volatile and a little out there, and this is the sentiment of his own teammates. Yet the coaches over at Miami felt he was a leader and was responsible enough to impart that level of responsibility on him and not follow up on exactly what he was going to do (or what he was doing) to “toughen up” his teammate.
The fact that the Dolphins’ coaching staff let it get this far, that not only did they have an idea but in fact, they gave Incognito the green light, without any follow through on their part, to do what he thought was fair or right is egregious. The coaches will now have to answer questions of their own and the organization will see itself forced to let go of more people before this is through, due to their own lack of leadership and foresight. Every one from the GM down to the towel boy is on notice because this is just the beginning and a lot more details and examples of the Dolphins incompetence as an organization are bound to come out.
